New York Doctor Fined $20,000 for Fake Botox Use

More coverage of a disturbing trend being fueled by the current economic realities. Unethical doctors and quasi-medical practitioners are using fake BOTOX and other illicit injectables to create a more affordable treatment. Patients have no assurance that the product being injected into them is even safe, let alone effective. The age old adage really needs to guide consumers in this, if it seems to good to be true (price wise) then it probably is. Always use a reputable plastic surgeon who uses genuine injection cosmetic products.

New York state is fining a suburban Syracuse doctor $20,000 after accusing him of injecting patients with an unapproved drug he told them was Botox, a popular anti-wrinkle treatment.

State regulators also put Dr. Douglas Halliday of East Syracuse on probation for three years and told him he can only practice medicine when monitored by another doctor who periodically reviews his records.

Halliday is an ear, nose and throat doctor. He was charged with 10 counts of professional misconduct including gross negligence and gross incompetence.

Halliday’s attorney says the doctor signed a consent agreement, pleading no contest to two negligence allegations. The plea satisfied all the charges against him. Authorities say 12 patients were involved.
