Dr. Mark Berman, MD, of Los Angeles, Named President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery for 2010

Dr. Mark Berman, MD, of Los Angeles, has been named President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery for 2010. Berman’s appointment was announced at the AACS’s 26th Annual Scientific Meeting at Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando.

“When I look back at the doctors that have come before me to lead the AACS, I am both humbled and honored to serve as President,” Berman said. “As the AACS has evolved, it’s clear that our fundamental goal remains to advance patient care in cosmetic surgery.  Anything else we achieve remains secondary to that goal.  Our past Presidents have all made contributions to that end and need our continued support.”

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Berman began practicing cosmetic surgery in 1983 and has been an AACS member since its inception in ’84. He specializes in breast augmentation and fat-grafting, and is a diplomat with the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

With numerous accomplishments over the years, Dr. Berman has also been a trend-setter in the cosmetic surgery world. He pioneered the use of Gore-Tex materials for cosmetic surgery and also invented the Pocket Protector, a new technique in breast augmentation.

“I want my year as President to be fun,” Berman said. “I’m hopeful that these tumultuous financial times are abating and more patients will be able to seek the services they desire. I’d like to see our board and general membership enjoy the advancement of our profession.”

Dr. Berman has written a comprehensive book on cosmetic surgery, What you Really Need to Know About Cosmetic Surgery. He and wife, Saralee, have one son.
